What will the course provide me?

This course draws together all of the major lessons that RCA research coaches have found to be important - both to their own careers and to the careers of the researchers who they have coached.


You can use these major lessons to “take stock” of your own research career and to decide on the next steps for strengthening your career.


For researchers who are taking up one of the RCA coaching options, the course allows you to prepare for your individual coaching sessions.


About the course

This online course was developed using the materials and processes that we have successfully used for our face to face workshops in a range of institutions in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region. 


There are five parts to the workshop

  5. Course Forum allows you to post comments and questions. 

 

As part of the course you will receive access to our RCA Career Resources, including our comprehensive RCA Tip Sheet series that provides practical, easy to apply advice on topics such as: 

  • Writing a research plan, 

  • A strong research CV, 

  • How to sell your track record,

  • Balancing research work and life, 

  • Collaboration and Partnership, and, 

  • Promotion.


It also allows researchers to consider any questions that you may wish to post on the Course Forum.


As you proceed you may wish to note down any thoughts or any questions that you may wish to ask your coach privately, or that you may wish to post on the Course Forum.


What are the aims of the course?

By the end of the course you will have prepared for your individual coaching sessions by:

  • Understanding the research coaching process;

  • Exploring research leadership issues and the main strategies used to strengthen research careers;

  • Exploring how to manage and balance research and other demands.
